widow of 15th Brigader John Penrod, has been active in women's liberation, anti-racist, and anti-imperialist movements since the 1960s. She currently organizes with Redstockings of the Women's Liberation Movement, National Women's Liberation, Friends and Families of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade, and the Professional Staff Congress (AFT Local #2334). An activist-scholar, she is an associate professor at Queens College, CUNY. Her book, Freedom for Women: Forging the Women's Liberation Movement, 1953-1970 (2010) is available on Amazon.
