Sandra Rivera-Colon was born into the anti-poverty movement here in the United States. Her parents were homeless youth living at a park in the Frankford section of Philadelphia in 1994 and she was conceived while her parents lived and organized at a tent city. Kensington Welfare Rights Union started to speak up against the inhumane conditions of poor people in the community and her family joined with them. Throughout her childhood and teen years, Sandra has marched and organized for social justice and human rights. Youth engagement and outreach are her passions and thus, she is a youth leader in the Poor People’s Army.
