Stephen Downs, Esq. graduated from Amherst College (1964) and Cornell Law School (1969) after serving in the U.S. Peace Corps in India (1964–66). He was chief attorney of the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct from 1974–2003, part of the defense team in U.S. v. Yassin Aref (2006–2007), and a founder of Project SALAM (2008). He was executive director of the Coalition for Civil Freedoms (CCF, formerly called National Coalition to Protect Civil Freedoms) from 2012-2013, and is currently Chair of the CCF Board.
